Facilitator’s Guide
This turn-key program guides support group facilitators through a course that helps caregivers recognize and cope with the emotional stress of caregiving and create a plan for self care. Depending on the number of people in attendance and the length of each meeting, it will take from four to eight sessions to adequately cover the material.
The Facilitator’s Guide is filled with articles about dealing with caregiver anger, guilt, depression, and grief along with a three-step process of “Developing an Attitude of Creative Indifference” toward people, events, and situations over which caregivers have little or no control. Each topic has a list of open-ended questions that will encourage discussion, along with suggested Action Steps that help empower caregivers make decisions about how they want to manage situations over which they do have some influence or control – including their own physical and mental well-being.
Letters from Madelyn, Chronicles of a Caregiver (1 copy)
The foundation of this program is based on Elaine’s unflinching honest and uproariously funny book, Letters From Madelyn, Chronicles of a Caregiver.
Caregivers often say, “Madelyn says the things I only think and never have the nerve to say out loud.” and “She gives me permission to be human.”

32 -page workbook and journal helps validate the emotional stress experienced by most caregivers. They learn that anger, guilt, depression, and grief are actually normal and predictable responses to situations over which they have little or no control. Through applying the 3-step process of “Developing an Attitude of Creative Indifference” to a variety of situations, they learn how they can make choices about situations over which they do have some control. They learn that self-care is not selfish, and are provided with a framework to develop their own personalized caregiver survival plan.
